A 19-year-old man from Sunrise has been arrested for catfishing local men, luring them to his apartment and relieving them of valuables. Police charged Glenford Williams with three felony counts of armed robbery on Tuesday. Using the name "Diana," Williams allegedly used the social site Moco Space to entice his victims.
Moco Space operates like Adult Friend Finder, but looks like it exists perpetually in 1996. Anyone trying to get laid from a Geocities-esque site should be pitied, not punished. Jumping out at them from a stairwell with a ski mask on, then, is just cruel. But that's exactly what police say Wiliams did to Matthew Bumpers of Dania Beach, the Sun Sentinel reports.
The 19-year-old showed up at Boardwalk Apartments on Northwest 60th Avenue on the Fourth of July expecting sparks to fly between himself and "Diana." Unfortunately, the woman -- who was eager to invite strangers into her apartment after a brief, sexually-charged and entirely text-based exchange -- was too good to be true. He lost $150 in the robbery.
Although it's clear that Bumpers and the other victims weren't exactly thinking with their heads, it doesn't seem Williams had to exert much mental effort, either, when fabricating the female identity. All it took was a provocative photo, a vague promise of "chilling" and a fake voicemail that Bumpers called "sensual." Almost entirely thoughtless on both ends, it seems.
Williams arrest comes a little more than a week after Subhanna Beyah was apprehended in New York.
She and three other women are accused of running a much more impressive and time-consuming seduction scheme in South Florida -- involving flirting with and then drugging men at clubs -- that saw New York Giants star Shaun Rodgers lose $500,000.
