Between 2009 and 2010 the American economy was slowly recovering from a serious crisis, but that didn't quell America's obsession with booty meat. Newsweek reports that in that time Americans were spending a lot on plastic surgery procedures, including 24.4 percent more on butt lifts even as we were cutting spending on things like food, housing, and clothes.
From Newsweek:
Between 2009 and 2010, Americans spent 3.8 percent less on food, 2 percent less on housing, 1.4 percent less on clothes, and 7 percent less on entertainment. At the same time, we spent 1.3 percent more on breast augmentation, 5.1 percent more on lipo, 8.1 percent more on eyelid surgery, and a whopping 24.4 percent more on butt lifts. The average American income during this period fell 0.6 percent, to $62,481.Of course, Miami has always been big booty obsessed (not to mention plastic surgery obsessed in general), but America has always been more of a boob country than a butt country. Maybe the rise in butt lift surgeries has something to do with the three-headed, six-cheeked beast known as Kardashian.
Oddly, Newsweek also reports that a good number of people who get plastic surgery aren't rich. About a third make less than $30,000-a-year. So how do they pay for those butt jobs? With loans and finances of course.
Eeek. Aren't predatory loaning and slick financing how we got into this financial crisis in the first place? Good thing you can't foreclose on an ass. You'd be better off taking out loans for proper butt surgery than the back-alley option, we suppose.
