Police in Orange Park, Florida, a Jacksonville suburb, are on the lookout for a man they believe was trying to trade a child for food. On Saturday night, the man went door to door at a motel and asked several people if they'd like to make the despicable deal.
"He was holding the baby like it was a doll. That's what it looked like at first," witness Brian Boyle told News 4 Jax. "It looked like a doll. That's why I questioned him, 'Yo, what are you doing?'"
Boyle and other witnesses said the first saw the man outside the Rodeway Inn Motel at about 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. They say he was caring the child carelessly, and tossing him around like a rag doll.
Another witness said that he knocked on his door and offered to trade the child for food. Several people at the motel called police, but they did not arrive in time to catch the man.
Police believe the man and child may have been spotted getting into a taxi cab at a nearby McDonald's later that night, but have not been able to either locate or identify the man or child. No reports of missing children have been made, but police are eager to determine the safety and welfare of the child.
