The Magic Kingdom is about to get a little bit more magical. For the first time in the Disney park's 41-year history it will sell alcohol to its guests. Now, before you make plans to get blitzed and see how many times you can ride Space Mountain without ralphin', we should let you know that wine and beer will only be sold at a specific restaurant and only during dinner hours.
The Magic Kindgom is currently undergoing its biggest expansions in years with the introduction of the Fantasyland Forest. The area will feature a brand new castle modeled after the one seen in Beauty and the Beast, which will include the Be Our Guest restaurant, AKA anyone over 21's new favorite attraction.
The new restaurant will feature French cuisine, and apparently the park realized that no French meal is complete without wine.
"You cannot walk into a French restaurant and not get a glass of wine or beer," Maribeth Bisienere, vice president of food and beverage for Walt Disney Parks, told The Orlando Sentinel. "It made more sense to do it than not to do it."
The expansion, along with the restaurant, will open this November.
While alcohol can be found for sale in sister parks like Epcot and Animal Kingdom, it will be the first time the Magic Kingdom offers up booze to its guests on the regular. Competitors Universal Studios and SeaWorld also sell some alcohol. Of course, Busch Gardens, as its name would suggest, also serves alcohol, but closed its complimentary brewery years ago. (We hated waiting around without our parents as a kid, but now mourn its loss.)
Now, just let us know when the park opens an Alice in Wonderland-themed restaurant so we can get a hit of whatever it is that Caterpillar was smoking.
