Last time we checked in with our lil' football friends the Dolphins shocked the nation and had last week off, the Canes fell apart in the last quarter of a game they should have won, and the Golden Panthers won their first game of the season. So in two cases we'll see one win wonders trying to hold on to momentum, and in the other a team struggling to hold on to its former glory in its most notorious rivalry.
San Diego Chargers @ Miami Dolphins, Sunday 1:00pm on CBS4
The Dolphins are coming off one of the most miraculous upsets in NFL history (let's not let the fact that Tom Brady is out get in the way), but the Chargers had a pretty spectacular fourth quarter rebound against the raiders themselves last Sunday. The Chargers, all things considered, are probably a better team, but Dolphins Stadium is sold out and Dolfans are pumped like they haven't been in years, so unless the Fins make some disastrous first quarter mistakes it should make for one hell of a home field advantage.
Florida State University Seminoles @ University of Miami Hurricanes, Saturday 3:30PM on ABC Local 10
For the second time in as many years the USF Bulls are again the highest ranked team in Florida. WTF happened to College football in this state? Now former fat kings of Florida football, the Canes and the Noles, come together for their yearly meeting, this time to decide who's fall from glory is more embarrassing. The Canes traditionally benefit from a home field advantage against the Noles. Even though this is a new home field, the Canes did defeat the Noles in Dolphin Stadium (then Pro Player Field, whatever) in the 2004 Orange Bowl.
Florida International University Golden Panthers at North Texas Mean Green, 7:30 pm on ESPN Regional TV
This is the first in conference game for the Golden Panthers. They won last week, and their only win last season was against UNT. UNT's team also has a stupid name. The Mean Green Football Team. So there's that.
