Today is it. After more than 15 years on Biscayne Boulevard, Miami New Times is headed for Wynwood. Our new HQ is the Wynwood Building at NW Third Avenue and 27th Street.
You know, that zebra-striped building you see in quick cuts at the beginning of Heat games. The place is a block from NW Second Avenue, the heart of the monthly art walk, and a stone's throw from scores of new bars and restaurants that have arisen in the neighborhood.
Miami's Main Street has matured since we opened at 2800 Biscayne Boulevard in the 1990s. It is no longer the sole respite of hookers, drug dealers and miscreants. Now those people are mixed with fine food purveyors and a patina of class. We will miss it.
But we are excited as hell to be in the midst of the most happening arts district in America, where we will be one of the largest businesses.
To our new neighbors including Gramps, Wood Tavern, Lester's, Pride and Joy, Bloom, Jimmy'z Kitchen, Panther Coffee, Wynwood Kitchen & Bar, Clive's, and more galleries than I can shake a newspaper at. I say: Open up early! Bring us your specials, your fine food, your cheap beer, and your loud music. We'll bring the wild times!
And to be honest, we believe it's significant that our buddies over at the Miami Herald are moving into the old Southern Command space out in Doral. By contrast, we are committed to the urban core and believe that its future is bright. We won't be leaving anytime soon.
