This weekend at Wynwood's monthly Art Walk, you'll be able to drink, be merry, and be surrounded by great art. The difference this month? You can do it all without worrying about getting hit by a car on NW Second Ave. -- and you'll be doing it for a good cause.
This Saturday, Bacchanalia will be kicking off on the 31,000-square-foot turf neighboring Panther Coffee during Wynwood Art Walk.
In the true spirit of Bacchanal, the event promises plenty of life's greatest pleasures, letting patrons eat and drink like the Greco-Roman gods as they partake in live entertainment and art.
Bacchanalia has partnered with some of Miami's best food and wine vendors. Food trucks will be rallied up and for those looking to drink like Bacchus, and there will be a full bar and wine bars peppered throughout. As for entertainment, live art renderings and a roster of OFM's most talented DJs will be rotated on the hour.
In Miami, it's no secret that browsing through art gallery after art gallery is a fun pastime. But what most patrons of art fail to realize is that having a gallery of your own is a luxury few artists can afford. Gil Kaplan and David Sadkin, the founders and creative minds behind the event, want to bring together the community in the art walk environment. But they also have a greater mission: to give Miami's best up-and-coming artists the opportunity to exhibit.
"We're really looking to bring together the lesser known artists in the community and give them a chance to showcase their artwork," says Sadkin. Over 60 galleries, complexes, and collections will be showcased at Bacchanalia thanks to its organizers' collaboration with Miami International University of Art & Design, New World School of the Arts, and local galleries in Wynwood.
The other mission behind Bacchanalia is no less important, and that's to do a good deed for kids. "Our main goal is really to set up this Miami Children's Hospital Foundation," says Sadkin. A portion of all the proceeds made at Bacchanalia will go toward the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation (MCHF). The idea of combining a good cause with our local art scene has been well received by the community, too. "We're thrilled and taken back that everyone was just so willing to help us," says Sadkin.
