In honor of our People Issue, which will hit newsstands and computer screens November 25, Cultist proudly presents "100 Creatives," where we feature Miami's cultural superheroes. Have suggestions for future profiles? Email [email protected] with the whos and whys.
Ingrid Bazin adds soul to our sometimes-soulless Miami nightlife. Born in Jamaica to a preacher father and a teacher mother, IngridB made her way stateside in 1984 from Barbados, where she grew up. In 2001, BSide Entertainment was born, fusing Ingrid's love for poetry with her passion for soul music. A national expert on all things soul, IngridB has worked as a producer for Lyric Café on BETJ and CentricTV. She can also be seen using her skills as host and promoter of three weekly events: the Soulcial, a live music extravaganza; the Bohemia Room, a spoken-word night; and Flow Fridays, an open-mike throwdown.
With three weeklies, Ms. B could probably use her own venue (she's working on it). Just like her events, though, there's more to Ingrid than meets the eye. She has a 19-year-old daughter and "a small circle of friends who are like family, a large circle of associates who are like friends, and Soulcialites who support me." She also knows how much these people helped shape who she is today. "Everything I am doing now is because others saw something in me. I am still growing and learning all my talents. I am the B side."
