Sure, everyone knows Brad Goreski as the bow-tie-wearing, pop-of-color-loving former assistant (and later style director) to Rachel Zoe on The Rachel Zoe Project.
He loves prints. He loves anything bold. But now the stylist-cum-editorial columnist has a new job title to add to his resume: book author.
Appearing at Books & Books on Lincoln Road tonight to read from his debut memoir meets style tips tome, Born to Be Brad: My Life and Style, So Far, we caught up with the 34-year-old to get the skinny on the other side of Brad.
Your fashion misses can be your fashion hits.
"We see this on the carpet at the Oscars over and over again and every
single year. Those dresses that get ripped apart from the press and
whatever ... actually, those are the things that we remember."
Every day make that conscious decision to allow yourself to play
dress-up, as opposed to just throwing things on and going to work.
"I think it's just that different perspective, that allowing yourself to
continue to play with clothes and play with accessories and to take out
this element of fear that I think people have every day of, 'Oh, what am I
going to wear?' The answer: Whatever you're feeling."
Allow yourself to experiment with trends.
"If you don't feel like you can wear a head-to-toe Versace print ... well, you'll never know unless you try."
I don't think there needs to be a wardrobe overhaul every year or every season.
"Choose wisely. It makes shopping easier, too. I think people get
overwhelmed and they're like, 'Oh, I don't know what to buy. There's so
many denim brands. There's so many t-shirts.' But what do you need?
Honestly, what do you need?"
I'm a big supporter of wearing things over and over again.
"I believe in buying dress pieces every season, but I also believe in
investing in things. My first Thom Browne suit that I had, I've had it
since 2008 and I wore it today. It's four years old and it's still one
of my favorite things that I own. At the time, I was like, 'Oh I don't
know if I should spend this much money on a suit,' and thank God I did.
I've worn the jacket separately from the pants, and it's always a huge
hit. It's one of my go-to things in my closet. I think having those
things is also an extra relief for people. When I have to wake up at 6
o'clock in the morning to go to a talk show or an interview, I always
know that I have my staples lined up."
