For the 16th year, City Theatre hosts Summer Shorts, which opens at the Arsht Center this Thursday, giving us all a reason to stay in town for sweaty June. And this year, the cast includes the "culture guy" from the Emmy-winning Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Jai Rodriguez.

Just as on the Bravo TV show, Rodriguez will inject a little culture into your life via the festival's SNL-style sketch plays. To celebrate we're giving away two free tickets to opening night this Thursday. Read on for details.

The benchmark of the Summer Shorts festival are ridiculous and

thought-provoking what-if scenarios. Past years have included a short about a

man who was haunted by bad weather after getting struck by lightening

twice, another about a woman who is teleported to the bed of whomever's

name she calls out when she's having sex, and last year's infamous,

"Banging Ann Coulter," which poised a what-if about the tow-headed politico's sexual habits.

This year continues with more outlandish situational humor and drama. There's

one short about a kiddie gang war on a playground, another about

passengers thrown overboard who unexpectedly find their port in a storm,

and a short about a gamer who wagers the fate of Earth against alien

invaders.

To win two free tickets to opening night on Thursday, leave a comment on

Cultist's Facebook (you must "like" the page first) with a creative

what-if scenario you'd like to see in future Summer Shorts (what if the new mayor was awesome? what if a Heat win led to a resurgence of Miami's blighted neighborhoods? what if the internet exploded?).

We'll pick a

random winner on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The tickets will be held for you

at the box office before the 7 p.m. showtime on Thursday, June 2.

Summer Shorts runs through June 26 at Arsht Center's Carnival Studio

Theater (1300 Biscayne Blvd, Miami). Tickets cost $45. Call 305-949-6722

or visit arshtcener.org.
