Jersey Boys, the runaway Broadway hit and 2006 Tony Award-winning Best Musical about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, hits Miami this week for a limited three-week run at the Arsht Center.
With previews Wednesday and Thursday and regular run starting tomorrow night, Jersey Boys is the story of how The Four Seasons came to be. It's the tale of four working class boys from Belleville New Jersey with a dream of pop stardom. From a blue-collar upbringing, they shoot up to become one of the most successful acts in pop music history. It's like a golden oldies station blowing up in your face. Except with choreographed dancing.
A true rags-to-riches story, Jersey Boys seems tailor made for the stage. It has jukebox hits mixed with dance and a story arc that features the rise, fall, and inevitable redemption of its heroes. All told through immensely popular doo-wop hits sang in falsetto.
The story is told through some of the group's biggest hits like, "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Sherry," "Rag Doll," "Oh What A Night," and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."
Described by the New York Times as a cross between Dreamgirls and Goodfellas, Jersey Boys is directed by two-time Tony Award-wining director Des McAnuff, written by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, choreographed by Sergio Trujillo and composed by Bob Gaudio with lyrics by Bob Crewe.
