With the Miami International Film Festival, South Beach Comedy Festival, and Fashion Week this weekend, it's going to be tough to choose which to attend. We thought we'd make your decision a little easier by giving away two free tickets to Mad Cat Theatre's production of The Preservation Society, part of the South Beach Comedy Festival.
The play follows a comedy writer who travels from Hollywood, CA to Hollywood, FL to give the eulogy at her grandmother's funeral. Read our interview with its writer and director Paul Tei, who cited his godmother, Jeanane Garofalo, and Iggy Pop as inspirations for this work.
Tei is a six-time Carbonell Award winner--both for his acting and
directing. And last year, Mad Cat Theatre brought us Going Green the
Wong Way, a one-woman comedy show, and Broadsword, which followed a
fictional New Jersey metal band. For The Preservation Society, Tei cast
his non-actor parents and employs an on-stage chorus to communicate the
inner monologue of Polly, the writer.
