Although only a third of the galleries showing at last night's Miami International Art Fair were local, the hometown work clearly stood out amongst the rows of booths. As fair director Aldo Castillo told our art critic: "I think it's important to support the galleries developing in your different art districts and those spaces that contribute to culture here year round and not only in December."

This fair may lack the cred of Basel, but it's also lacks the stuffiness. Galleries like Spinello were given the freedom to construct multi-room video art spaces. And in augurari's booth, all-girl punk band Snakehole had band practice. These welcomed cracks in the fair experience were lost on last night's crowd, however, which we will annoying generalize as "nouveau riche Boca."
