The first couple times I heard Metric, I couldn't stand the singer's voice. Bands with female lead singers who have airy, over processed voices are becoming grating to me, a guy who grew up using Riot Grrl bands as my measuring stick for female vocal performances. Then I heard Metric's acoustic version of Elliot Smith's Between the Bars, and it all turned around for me.

I decided to put aside my blind dislike and do a little research on

Metric, and more specifically Emily Haines. After finding out she's a

regular in Broken Social Scene, I listened to all the Metric songs I

could find. Their indie-pop sound may have been done a million times

before, but combining the breezy synthesizers with Haines' Contralto

voice makes Metric one of the most unique sounds you'll hear at Buzz

Bake Sale tomorrow.

Metric will be performing at the Buzz Bake Sale in Cruzan Ampitheater on Saturday, December 5, along with Matisyahu, Cage the Elephant, Panic At The Disco, Manchester Orchestra, and more. Tickets are $40 for reserved seats, $20 for lawn.
