You may or may not have heard the (tragic) rumor that fav south Miami watering hole and all around wonder-dive Bougainvillea's is closing. It's been going around for some time, and billings like "Bougie's Last Thanksgiving Eve Block Party" and "Bougie's Last New Years Eve Party ever" seem to corroborate them. I could just ask someone at the bar, but I'm usually not in any shape to remember when I'm there. Which is part of the reason this is so sad. But, it seems, for good or ill, that Bougie's isn't closing up shop for good, but rather, moving to the beach, into Poprox old space. No doubt the hordes that frequented it in South Miami are uttering the same disappointed grumbles about what seems like a poor move to a generally inauspicious locale.
Still, they're kicking things off this weekend with a hell of a good show for the grand opening, and however disappointed you may be with the move, it's a show you won't want to miss. Local Latin alt-rock outfit Minimal is going to be performing live tonight, and Ever So Clever tomorrow. Minimal is fresh off the release of their sophomore studio production Hermoso Caos (Lovely Chaos), an effort featuring slick and at times surreal tracks jammed with rock and alternative and streamlined with electronic "flirtations," as they call them. Mostly, they just plain rock though. They've stepped up their game from 2006 debut Fotos, Cartas y un Puñal (Pictures, Letters and a Dagger), and that's saying a lot. If you haven't seen them live yet, here's your chance to see some of the best Latin rock SoFla has to offer.
Minimal performs live at Bougie's on the Beach (2701 Collins Avenue) tonight. Ever So Clever tomorrow. No cover.
