Among the many fine things going on this weekend, the Bubble is hosting a massive birthday bash this weekend in Fort Lauderdale. The experimental art space, which is located at 810 NE 4th Ave. in the Flagler Village section of town, has become the lifeblood of a passionate group of folks who actually give a hoot about what sort of culture they consume.
As our writer Erica K. Landau puts it in this marvelous history lesson about the past year, "Without the Bubble, Broward County's artistic community would seem a
little less real or weird or genuine or honest or innocent." And let's not forget that we would all be a lot less festive if not for the two-venue gala held Saturday.
From 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Dooms de Pop, the Shakers, Radar vs. Wolf, Manifest Test Subjects,
Trav, and Catalonia are among the acts getting everyone warmed up at the Bubble's warehouse space rain or shine. At 10:30 p.m. the party moves to the Poor House (110 Nugent Ave., Fort Lauderdale) for Green Mantles, Astari Nite, and Grey & Orange.
As you can see, both Alexander and Zombies! Organize!! will also entertain the masses -- at some point in some location, but the Bubble folks are keeping that under wraps for now. We'll inform you when we know for sure.
Bonus Bubble celebrating happens on Sunday at the Jib Room (2104 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Fort Lauderdale) starting at 8 p.m. The lovely voice of Mike Mineo leads the charge, with Green Mantles, Catalonia and Trav also appearing.
