In September 2010, Nicchols Toussaint of Blackout Anima, known to his friends as Nico, was working at a regular job. Reflective of these crazy times we live in, he wasn't getting paid enough. So he quit and started doing his own thing, booking rock shows under the name of Legion of Psychedelic Doom.
This week, he's teamed up with Loose Socks, which he describes as a community social network, to put on a show with another catchy name -- Lexical Ambiguity -- featuring a giant roster of mostly young, local bands.
They came up with the event name farting around on the web, finding the right words for their gig. "You can use one word in different ways, using the same word in a different sentence makes completely different sense," Toussaint says. It's fitting because many of the bands playing tonight at Churchill's Pub feature the same people making different music in different contexts. Toussaint notes, they feature the "same roots. But they have different ends."
Nico's highlights include Miami New Times' Best Twitter Feed winner Manny Mangos, who hasn't played a show in a little while. Toussaint calls Lexical Ambiguity "his comeback to the scene." Also, watch out for Sean Waters of Deaf Poets playing in Shiboleth, which sounds much less like the bluesy Southern rock of his main gig and more like garage-y psychedelia. Toussaint calls it a "fresh taste in your mouth." He's excited to see The Gun Hoes for the first time too. But Nico genuinely believes all ten performers are something special.
Basically, Lexical Ambiguity will have everything from "the devil's rock 'n' roll" to pop rock with Bangi, Israel, The Jellyfish Brothers, The Cost, Manny Mangos, Shiboleth, The Heartline Fits, Bondage, The Gun Hoes, Dead Beat Dad, and Blackout Anima.
