Bertha, the first hurricane of the season formed in the Atlantic this week, and while its no threat to South Florida, it definitely brought with it the summer slowdown we've been expecting for a while. Nightlife pickings are slim this week and probably won't pick up until the fall. Such is life, but there are still a few things worth checking out this weekend.
Klever has virtually overnight risen to become one of the most respected electro-house DJs. He is no stranger to the Miami scene, so he should feel comfortable when he takes over the decks at White Room (1306 N Miami Ave., Miami) Friday night for its Home Bass party. Local DJs Contra, Keen One, Jessica Who? and more are on the bill as well.
One of Miami's hardest working DJs, Danny Daze, starts his residency at Aero Bar (247 23rd St., Miami Beach) this Friday for its Element party. Daze is undeniably one of the city's most talented and versatile DJs, having played everywhere from Cameo to The Vagabond. DJs Erasmo and Tito will also be there to pump out the house tunes.
Every second Saturday, Poplife, also at White Room, pulls out its Popart party, where art meets music and nightlife. This Saturday, half of the DJ/production duo Nacho Lovers and Fool's Gold artist Fistfight will be spinning along with resident DJs Induce, Matt Cash and Aramis. In the Red Room, DJs CNTRL, Mike Deuce and Stravisky hold down the fort. Open bar from 10 to 11 p.m. Could you ask for more?
Sunday night, Black Sunday at Bella Rose (423 16th St., Miami Beach) has quickly become the talk of the town. Spearheaded by Alexis Mincolla, the night attracts a diverse crowd of local hipsters, fashionistas and everything in between. Don't worry, no door drama here, as velvet ropes and guestlists aren't in the venue's vocabulary. Mincolla's viral videos to promote the night have also gain notoriety. In it, he slyly murders quasi-celebs and prominent Miami scenesters. Check out the party's video from last week below:
