Cultural encounters can seem intimidating. But there’s more to music than hip-hop, beats, and the outrageous antics of Miley Cyrus. Classical compositions may be highbrow in theory, but they can be quite remarkable in execution. This year’s highly anticipated season finale of the Mainly Mozart Festival XX, produced by the lauded Miami Chamber Music Society, is no exception. It pairs three acclaimed musicians — Amit Peled (cello), Yi-Jia Susanne Hou (violin), and Marina Radiushina (piano) — with the renowned dancers of the Miami City Ballet and choreographer Adriana Pierce. They’ll emphasize works rarely heard in South Florida, with this year’s focus falling on pieces by Rachmaninoff, Dvorák, Ravel, and Bartók. There will also be a special performance — My Homeland, a world premiere conceived by Pierce. Classical music aficionados have cause to celebrate, while novices can take this opportunity to expand their horizons with an appreciation for the arts.
