Miami may be an urban jungle, but it can be difficult to feel connected to the real wilderness when you spend your life among the construction cranes and skyscrapers within city limits. So the Verde Gardens Community Farm and Market is a welcome natural oasis. The project, a 22-acre working farm, sets out to provide organic, local produce to the formerly homeless families that work the land to help pay for housing in the Verde Gardens community. Lettuce, tomatoes, broccoli, microgreens, eggplant, and other produce are grown in an environmentally friendly, socially beneficial manner in nearby Homestead. But they can’t do it alone. So head to Moksha Family Arts Collective (228 NE 59th St., Miami) this Saturday for Karma Seeds That Feed, a yoga-focused benefit for Verde Gardens. A special yoga class taught by instructors Terri Cooper and Claire Santos is the main attraction, but attendees can also enjoy live music, a 50/50 raffle and silent auction, and massage and Reiki. In keeping with the back-to-nature mission of the farm, the fundraiser will also feature vendors selling healthful food and eco-friendly lifestyle products.
