Last year, our previews of Miami Marlins games were our own personal space to bitch and moan about the terrible job the Marlins’ front office had done by assembling a roster full of losers that rivaled that of the movie Major League. Jose Fernandez has obviously filled the role of Rick Vaughn, and somewhere in the basement of Marlins Park, we’re sure there’s a life-size, bikini-clad, strippable David Samson poster to motivate the team to win (not effectively). This year, Samson’s fire sale of two years ago looks pretty genius, even though it doesn’t hurt to have Giancarlo “the Body” Stanton and ace pitcher/overall good guy Fernandez on the team stacking up stats and wins.
This year, we’re gonna be excited to write about this team, especially when division rivals like the New York Mets come to town this Tuesday. The Marlins and Mets share the same record, good enough for a slim third place in the division, but still at a .500 record. The season is still young, and it’s the best time to see what we’ve got. The two face off at Marlins Park (501 Marlins Way, Miami) at 7:10 p.m. Tickets cost $25 to $225. Visit marlins.com or call 305-480-1300.
