February has its fair share of holidays — Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day — but let’s not forget the entire month is dedicated to preserving black history. The Blue Starlite Drive-In will present the Black History Month Film Festival, and kicking off the festivities is 2007’s Red Tails, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Terrence Howard. The four-day minifest begins Wednesday, and the next batch of films will be screened at the end of the month. Rounding out the festival are other seminal flicks, including Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Remember the Titans, and 42, which will be shown February 26 through 28. The Blue Starlite has chosen these films because they highlight key moments in black history and can all be referred to as either “action adventure” or “epic.” Celebrate Black History Month at the Blue Starlite Beach at Virginia Key (4020 Virginia Beach Dr., Miami) this Wednesday. Gates open at 6:45 p.m., and showtime is 8. Be sure to reserve your FM car slot ahead of time. Ticket prices start at $30 and include entry for three people. Visit miamiurbandrivein.com.
