What do Purple Haze, Estrella Damm, and Uncle Luke have in common? They’re just a few of the names you’ll see at this year’s Miami New TimesBrew at the Zoo. Going on its fourth year, the beer fest has annually attracted more than 6,000 hops-lovers to Zoo Miami (12400 SW 152nd St., Miami), and with good reason: booze and great music. Miami’s own Luther “Uncle Luke” Campbell, Grammy-winning hip-hop crew Naughty by Nature, and the newest member of Pitbull’s recording label, Madai, will provide the soundtrack for the night. If the music doesn’t justify the 30-minute drive to Southwest Miami-Dade, the extensive beer selection will. With more than 100 ales to sample, all beer personalities will find the perfect brewski for their taste. The beer traditionalist will opt for some good ol’ Sam Adams, Bud Light Platinum, or Beck’s Sapphire. The beer drinker with an international palate can enjoy imports such as Dos Equis from Mexico, Murphy’s from Ireland, and Chang from Thailand. The specialty-beer snob will want to sample several rounds of West Coast IPA, Shock Top, and Turbodog. And the adventuresome beer drinker will surely want to check out Homebrew Alley, where homebrewers will present their finest creations and be judged by a panel of experts for the title of Best Homebrewed Beer.
