In the world of alt-weekly journalism, it’s hard to write about a 20-plus-game winning streak in basketball. By the time this item is printed, the Miami Heat’s mind-blowing string of win after win after damn amazing win could be broken. But let’s imagine it lasts. If the Heat continues its winning streak to Tuesday’s game against the New York Knicks, it could mark Miami’s 31st in a row, meaning the team would be three games away from breaking the NBA record. And hell, even if they lose one after presstime, leading MVP candidate LeBron James and company can still kick the Knicks around leading into the “second season.” Following a fast start, the Knicks have cooled off and are limping their way into the playoffs after a string of injuries decimated the starting lineup. On the other hand, the hometown Heat is finishing off its season by beating up on opponents like schoolyard bullies. Barring an injury, tearing through the Eastern Conference and making it to the NBA Finals is a sure thing. After this game, only seven remain until the playoffs begin.
