Few cultural phenomenons offer so many costume choices as The Wizard of Oz. You could go the obvious route, donning gingham, pigtails, and ruby slippers to become Dorothy. You could throw on a lion’s mane, stuff your shirt with a bag of straw, or wear a metal funnel as a hat to imitate the friends Dorothy picks up along her journey to the Emerald City. Or you could go obscure: Glinda the Good Witch? Flying monkey? Angry, apple-throwing tree? Member of the Lollipop guild?
It’s a difficult decision, but it’s one you’ll have to make if you’re attending the Wizard of Oz Sing-Along at O Cinema Miami Shores (9806 NE Second Ave., Miami Shores) this Friday. The theater encourages attendees — adults and children alike — to dress in their best Oz styles and belt out classic songs such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” along with Judy Garland on the screen. There’ll be door prizes and a costume contest, and proceeds will benefit the Miami Shores Fine Arts Commission.
