End of Days Party at Grand Central December 21

Y2K didn't screw us. And that kooky Christian group was wrong about May 21, 2011, which came and went sans apocalyptic incident. The third time, however, is always the charm. And the world will almost certainly end December 21, the date the Mayans predicted will be our last. But rather than prepping for doomsday by loading up on guns and nonperishables or repenting and reading scripture in a fallout shelter, we suggest a one-hour open bar and live, local music at Grand Central's End of Days party. New Times' 2011 Best Live Music Venue is embracing the imminent demise of Planet Earth and live-scoring it with some homegrown indie-pop (Little Beard), garage punk (Deaf Poets), nu-wave (Eons), Hialeah-bred shoegaze (Planelifter), and a couple of DJs (Tommy Gun and Benton). By now, you've likely heard and fallen in love with Little Beard. "We're so unconventional and horrible at promoting our shows," the band told New Times shortly after earning the coveted Best Band You've Never Heard Of award last year. "It took us almost three years to release music. So the fact that you're interviewing us is mind-boggling." The fact that the world is ending is sort of mind-blowing too. It's been real, y'all!
