In Keith Huff’s critically acclaimed play A Steady Rain, Joey and Denny are longtime partners on the Chicago police force. And the two lifelong friends are both totally screwed up in their own way. Joey is an introverted drunk who is secretly in love with Denny’s wife, while Denny is a racist who cheats on his wife with hookers. Denny is also fanatically hunting down a pimp named Lorenz who is responsible for seriously injuring his son when the pimp shot up his family’s home. During a random domestic disturbance call one night, Joey and Denny find and return a frightened Vietnamese boy to a man claiming to be the child’s uncle. Only problem is the two cops just handed the boy over to a man who happens to be a cannibalistic serial killer. That careless act strains their partnership as Joey and Denny deal with the responsibility of the boy’s heinous death. It’s a taut, gritty noir told through monologues that examine two deeply flawed men working an oftentimes dangerous job while battling their own personal demons.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: March 3. Continues through April 1, 2012
