After 12 years of live-mixing the weekly WNYU radio program Beats in Space, never once missing a night, Tim Sweeney has hosted pretty much every big name in electronic music.
Sweeney started the Tuesday-night affair as an 18-year-old college freshman. With ambition, smarts, and commitment, Beats in Space grew, eventually welcoming crazy-talented beatmakers such as Hercules & Love Affair, Carl Craig, Matthew Dear, Harvey, and Shit Robot. It's basically a chance for DJs to play their favorite music and chat without the pressure of who's doing what on the dance floor. And Sweeney was validated further when Rapture frontman Luke Jenner brought him over to DFA Records to work and tour with James Murphy and his powerful crew.
On the road again, he will appear in Miami at the Electric Pickle this Saturday, alongside opener Entresol, New Times' Best New Electronica Artist of 2011.
