Miami artists Pioneer Winter and Jared Sharon’s upcoming performance contains partial nudity — but which part? Visit the Bass Museum of Art to view 42: A Stonewall Prospective Tuesday and find out. There will be an open bar sponsored by 42Below vodka to help you settle in for an evening of contemporary dance, film, and visual art grounded in appreciation for some of the pioneers of the gay civil rights movement. Their rallying cry came June 28, 1969, when police raided a gay bar in New York City’s Greenwich Village called the Stonewall Inn, aiming to complete what then would have been a routine roundup. Yet in the bar and on the streets, crowds fought back and resisted arrest, fueling the Stonewall riots that sparked a turning point in the history of gay culture. The mindset of many gays and lesbians turned away from oppression and toward freedom of expression. Winter and Sharon’s art honors progressive predecessors who broke the ground on which the artists are building. Admission is free, but you must RSVP to ensure entry.
