For the second year, the Bicycle Film Festival, running this Thursday through Sunday, screens fast-paced and intelligent cycling flicks in Miami. After getting hit by a New York City bus while on his bike, founding director Brendt Barbur decided to do something positive for cyclists and created the festival. And, man, has it become one great, big, positive event on wheels. This year alone he expects 300,000 to attend the festival when it tours 37 bike-centric cities from Tokyo to Austin. Attracting both cyclists and film buffs, the BFF unites communities and helps foster newer ones. Thursday at 5:30 p.m., pedal into a fixed-gear and road-cycling race, La Noche Criterium, with an awards ceremony and afterparty at Bar (28 NE 14th St., Miami). Friday at 7 p.m., see two film programs at O Cinema, with an afterparty at Kill Your Idol (222 Española Way, Miami Beach). Screenings include The Birth of Big Air, a film by big shots Spike Jonze, Johnny Knoxville, and Jeff Tremaine, with a soundtrack by Fugazi. The festival continues Saturday at O Cinema with three more bike movie programs and finishes with a Sunday group ride, departing from Government Center (150 NW First St., Miami).
