If the Miami Heat represents a new era of high-profile stars teaming up with the goal of steamrolling the rest of the league, then the San Antonio Spurs are already a relic. Their nucleus has been together for what seems like two decades, and though they’ve added some new blood throughout the years, their core players have stuck with the small market of San Antonio. The Spurs have only one household name (outside the basketball world, at least) in Tony Parker, and that’s because he married (and then divorced) Eva Longoria. Nonetheless, the Spurs sport the best record in the NBA, and they obviously represent a tough challenge for the Heat, a hastily built team that will recognize the importance of chemistry when going up against the league’s most harmonious team. But as the old football saying goes, “speed kills,” and that might be triply true when going up against Tim Duncan’s 34-year-old knees. The clash of old and new will begin Monday at 8 p.m. at the American Airlines Arena.
