According to the nomadic Fifi Projects’ Eduardo Lopez, the snapshot exhibit “Natures Mortes: A Restrospective,” on view at Abba Fine Art, centers on biological and technological decay. “It’s basically a best-of exhibit, featuring conceptual photography by ten artists,” Lopez says. “Fifi Projects has organized shows in New York, Miami, and Mexico since 2008. And this group show was culled from the different exhibits.”

It’s a still-life show, but don’t expect tropical fruit or a batch of ripe fish stinking up a table. Instead, you’ll find brooding works such as Mathias Kessler’s image of an iceberg big enough to sink the Titanic. The exhibition also features a series of haunting prints by Debra Holt, including one titled Explosion that looks like a wadded tuft of cotton being sprayed from a fire extinguisher.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Aug. 28. Continues through Sept. 30, 2010
