More than 100,000 Iraqis have been killed since the 2003 invasion, according to U.S. public health researchers. In that embattled corner of the world, thousands of civilians risk their lives and begin each day facing the perils of war and occupation. Living with War is a documentary series that reveals the effects that decades of war and oppression have had on Iraq and its people. The monthly series begins tonight at 7:00 with About Baghdad, a feature-length that follows exiled poet Sinan Antoon’s poignant return to his native land. The film will be shown in Arabic with English subtitles. Other selections in the series, Road to Guantanamo and Burma Diary, will explore human rights abuses and government mistreatment.

Local film connoisseur Barron Sherer is the curator of Living with War. Sherer, the cocreator of the acclaimed Cinema Vortex screening series, is known for bringing thoughtful, cutting-edge cinematic discoveries to the local scene.
