Do you ever watch as Academy Awards are handed out to short subject filmmakers and say to yourself: Who are those people? Where the heck can I see their stuff? Well, for the entire month of April, the Miami Beach Cinematheque is screening The 2005 Oscar Films You Need to Know.
Tonight at 8:30, see Junebug, a taut, absorbing drama about a newlywed Chicago art dealers pursuit of an eccentric painter in the Deep South, and the toll it takes on everyone involved. The film, directed by Phil Morrison and written by Angus MacLachlan, features Embeth Davidtz, Frank Hoyt Taylor, Amy Adams, and Ben McKenzie. Junebug was selected for the Museum of Modern Art and the Film Society of Lincoln Centers New Directors/New Films Festival. It also won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. Tickets cost $10 per film or $45 for the OscarPass, with serious discounts for MBC members. Call 305-673-4567, or visit www.mbcinema.com for a complete schedule.
