With its timeless score by Tchaikovsky, unforgettable cast of characters, elaborate costumes, and gravity-defying leaps and flourishes, The Nutcracker is a beloved holiday tradition full of fantasy and enchantment. The beguiling ballet, based on a story by Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, tells the tale of a young German girl named Clara who receives a toy soldier nutcracker for Christmas. Her dreams are filled with battles and sword fights, the Mouse King and the Sugar Plum Fairy, and of course a handsome prince. This Sunday the Cuban Classical Ballet of Miami will stage its version of the seasonal classic at the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, with each production boasting a different cast.

Founded in 2006 and featuring exile Cuban dancers, the company is dedicated to performing and preserving the classical ballet repertoire as exemplified by the island’s vaunted ballet tradition. See their spin of the ever-anticipated Christmas treat at 2 and 6 p.m. Call Ticketmaster at 305-358-5885 or the theater box office at 305-547-5414, or visit www.cubanclassicalballet.org.
