The Miami Beach Botanical Garden sits in a neighborhood where the indigenous greenery could easily be the kind you stuff in a pipe and smoke. Not that SoBe-ers don’t appreciate the nuances of nature’s beauty, but located a block from Lincoln Road and a short stroll to this season’s hottest nightlife destinations is a spot that some residents don’t even know exists behind the shrubby façade. Just so you know, it’s 4.5 acres of nature and culture colliding in a place where you can nearly hyperventilate from all the oxygen wafting up from the horticulture.

On Wednesday night, the Miami Beach Garden Club will take over this urban oasis and bring us Taste of the Garden, an annual celebration of food, wine, and, of course, plant life. From 6:30 to 9 p.m., chefs from restaurants from across the Magic City will serve up an alfresco meal that you don’t need a green thumb to enjoy, and the wine will flow like a river. Tickets cost $50 per person before January 22, $60 after that. Become a Miami Beach Botanical Garden member and save five bucks, plus have access to the most beautiful space this side of I-95. For tickets and info, call 305-576-9791.
