The BSC Bowl Championship series kicks off with the 2009 FedEx Orange Bowl at Dolphin Stadium. And you could not ask for a crappier matchup to get things rolling. The ACC champs Virginia Tech Hokies are set to face off against the Big East champs Cincinnati Bearcats in the 75th annual Orange Bowl. Yawn.
While the other BSC games will offer Penn State, USC, Alabama, Texas, and Ohio State all teams with marquee names (Joe Paterno), world-class players (Colt McCoy), and douchebag coaches (Nick Saban) the Orange Bowl will feature teams that nobody outside Blacksburg or Cincinnati couldnt give two shits about. Sure the Bearcats are a nice story coming out of a Big East, which is usually dominated by South Florida and West Virginia. But still. Can you name one player from that team?
Then theres the Hokies, who seem to play in the OB every year, which just makes them the annoying dinner guest who wont go home. However, with crappy matchups come great opportunities, because you can get tickets for this game for two bucks from places such as StubHub. So hey, its still football and its cheap! So if you have a dollar or two to spare, why not go? At least we have the National Championship being played here, so that sort of makes up for it. Kickoff is at 8 p.m. Suckers can purchase tickets for $110 to $120 at www.orangebowl.org.
