Of course we love Obama, but lets not forget about George Washington, the nations first prez. The inaugural regatta in honor of GWs birthday happened in 1887, and now, oh so many years later, it is time for the 14th edition of the Magic Citys Washingtons Birthday Regatta. You dont have to be POTUS to steer yourself into this competition. If you have a sailboat that floats, you can enter. Mud hens, sea pearls, bulls-eyes, sharpies, Bahama dinghies, cats, gaff rigs, and fiberglass vessels are all permitted.
This years race takes place on Biscayne Bay just east of the Barnacle Historic State Park in Coconut Grove, and crews are encouraged to adorn themselves in 19th-century-style garb. The seafaring fun begins at noon, followed by a chowder party at 5:30, so scrape together your $15 entry fee and rustle up some mateys for some fun on the high seas.
