Many of you have seen the Jack Black and Mike White film of the same name, but who knew there was actually a pre-existing School of Rock? Founded in 1998 by Paul Green, a Philadelphia guitar teacher who ended up spending his Saturdays jamming with his students, School of Rock is now a successful franchise with rock schools for young people ages 7 to 18 in 60 U.S. cities, one of which is rock-starved Miami.
The emphasis of the program, true to the heritage it espouses, is playing live and loud, so the school makes an effort to book a steady diet of shows for its student bands, the latest of which will take place this Sunday at 1 p.m. at Gibson GuitarTown in the Design District. FYI: This isnt your little sisters clarinet recital. This is your little sisters full-on shred fest through cover after cover of classic rock tunes, and, oh, by the way, did you see she got a new tattoo? That eagle crushing a cobra is pretty sweet, Daisy. Now go finish your times tables.
