Remember when Hollywood finally got Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the same movie? And it was sort of like having two great point guards on the same team, but no center? Remember when the Arizona Diamondbacks somehow got the two best starting pitchers in the Major Leagues — Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson — on the same staff, and it was so awesome they beat the Yankees in the 2001 World Series?

The pairing of the reigning kings of white male neurosis, Woody Allen and Larry David, in Allen’s newest film, Whatever Works, is going to be one of those two scenarios: crisp perfection or disastrous overload.
