The Redland Farm and Garden Show is a perfect excuse to visit enticing Fruit and Spice Park (24801 SW 187th Ave., Homestead), home to historic structures and 32 acres of fertile farmland that produce more than 500 varieties of plants. The show will revolve around antique tractors, flywheel engines, garden accessories, local herbs, fruit trees, and plants. Cooking demonstrations by some of South Florida's best chefs will highlight local produce, but gourmands should leave plenty of room for an exotic dessert. The tropical fruit ice cream booth will feature frozen treats concocted from such unusual items as the canistel, antidesma, soursop, lychee, mango, jaboticaba, jackfruit, and tamarind. Also on Saturday, June 7, at 10:00 a.m. naturalist Chris Rollins will lead a Lychee and Longan Workshop; the versatile Chinese fruits are becoming increasingly popular stateside. New boats and used boats, newfangled fishing gizmos and cutting-edge sailing equipment are just some of the things you'll see at the first-ever Miami Marine Expo and Flea Market. During this sluggish economy chances are you'll get a good deal on everything you need to help a distant cousin from Jakmel or Havana make it to dry land. Of course there are sure to be RADAR and scanning devices that might come in handy for ... well, you know.
