Few musicians create such universal music as does Kenny Garrett. Throughout a nearly 30-year career, multi-Grammy nominee and alto saxophonist Garrett has performed with jazz greats like Miles Davis and Art Blakey, as well as rockers Sting and Peter Gabriel. Garrett's spin on jazz has allowed him to work in unique situations, ranging from recording with the New Jersey Symphony to recording with hip-hop artist Guru. Garrett made his debut in 1984 shortly before joining Davis during the last years of the renowned trumpeter's life. Since then, Garrett has successfully led his own groups, releasing critically acclaimed albums including African Exchange Student and Happy People. His latest album, Standard of Language, has been praised for its high-energy sound as well as the influences it has drawn from Davis and the John Coltrane Quartet.
