Cosi Fan Tutte: Lorenzo Da Ponte's translated libretto of the Mozart opera is bolstered by good comic acting, especially from tenor Brian Anderson and baritone Michael Todd Simpson. Except for Susanne Mentzer (Despina), whose role demands a lot of funnily voiced character singing, there is never a metallic note from any of Cosi's six principals. Conductor Stewart Robertson and his orchestra were lovely and sensitive throughout, and the ensemble singing — e.g., "Soave Sia il Vento" ("May the Wind Be Gentle") — is so gorgeous that, if the rest of the opera weren't so funny, you'd cry all the way home. — Brandon K. This Carnival Center commission was designed by composer Jason Freeman "to make new connections between composers, performers, and audiences." For Better ...: Dubbed by its presenters as "a romantic comedy for the digital age," Eric Coble's play, directed by Ricky J. Martinez, employs a cast of six to probe the question "Do a bride and groom really need to be in the same country to go on a honeymoon?" Karen and Max are getting married — at least, if their jobs will ever let them be in the same city at the same time.
