    ,

One of the most popular art styles is perhaps landscape painting. Throughout the ages, artists have tried to make sense of the world by capturing it one brush stroke at a time. Even after the invention of photography — which many feared would be the end of traditional painting — artists continued to put it all on the canvas. In the Wolfsonian's latest exhibit, "The Big World: Alternative Landscapes in the Modern Era," curators Lea Nickless and Silvia Barisione explore diverse depictions of land in the museum's collection, with works spanning from the late 19th to the early 20th Century,… 305-531-1001

1001 Washington Ave., Miami Beach South Beach

    Free-$12

    ,

The Wolfsonian's latest exhibition, "What's on the Menu," on view until May 26, explores how restaurants and nightclubs at the beginning of the 1920s used graphic design to promote their business on print materials. The show, which features more than 50 items, including menus, matchbooks, and postcards, will transport you to a time when hospitality was immersed in glamour. All this ephemera was used to tease customers about what lay inside, from burlesque shows to celebrity sightings. 305-531-1001

    Museum of Graffiti

    276 NW 26th St., Miami Midtown/Wynwood/Design District

    ,

Miami's dynamic urban art scene experienced a seismic shift in the mid-'90s with the emergence of local teenage artist Crome, whose distinctive style and relentless urge to leave his mark transformed South Florida. His highly publicized legal battles alongside partner Crook in 1999 propelled Miami into the spotlight as a hub for the rebellious art form. Now, 25 years later, the Museum of Graffiti honors Crome's influential legacy with the exhibition "A Mouth Full of Crome." The show displays his street-art prowess alongside vibrant studio works capturing encounters from decades of urban painting. 786-580-4678

    $8-$15

    ,

It's starting to feel a lot like Miami Art Week. Kicking things off is the Bass with its exhibition "Nam June Paik: the Miami Years." Organized around the museum's recent acquisition of Paik's TV Cello (2003), the show closely examines the artist's connection to Miami, who made South Florida his home until his death in 2006. The artist's local legacy culminated with the sculptural installations at Miami International Airport in 1990. WING was located in the Concourse B lobby and greeted the public with 100 TV monitors assembled in a biplane-shaped neon frame, while MIAMI in Concourse E spelled out… 305-673-7530

    Ward Rooming House

249 NW Ninth Ave, Miami Unknown

    ,

The Historic Ward Rooming House opens its latest exhibition, "Conch House Hues," on Friday. Presented by Hampton Art Lovers, the show celebrates Roy Rolston, whose work immortalizes the Conch house style. Originating in Key West, the architectural style was developed by Bahamian immigrants, with houses resembling boats with timber framing. Evolving in the 1880s to balloon framing, it eventually extended to Miami, notably in the Coconut Grove and Overtown neighborhoods, exemplified by the early 1900s Historic Ward Rooming House.
