Flava Flav made hype-men what they are today, but Lil Jon makes hype-men what they will be tomorrow. The gold-toothed, dreadlocked madman put Atlanta on the map. His crunk music manifesto started a movement, whose reverberations we’re still reeling from ten years after his album Kings of Crunk, made with his crew the East Side Boyz, climbed the Billboard charts. When dance music began bubbling up in America, Lil Jon was one of the first mainstream figures to join the party. He jumped on tracks with Diplo, LMFAO, Laidback Luke, and Steve Aoki. He helped bridge the gap between hip-hop and dance music, enticing thousands of happy beat-seekers to the dance floors they call home today. Having created hits for everyone from Ciara to Usher, Snoop Dogg, T.I., Pitbull, Mobb Deep, The-Dream, Waka Flocka, and UGK, he’s one of the hottest producers in the game. And his influence continues to be felt across the nation. Whenever party monsters get wasted, it’s only a matter of time before they yell out Lil Jon’s trademark exaggerated “Yeahhh!” That’s his influence in the flesh, but you can get even closer when he stomps through LIV (4441 Collins Ave., Miami Beach) this Friday. The party starts at 11 p.m. Tickets cost $40 to $75. Call 305-674-4680 or visit livnightclub.com.
