Have you been around the world? Are you looking for your baby? Are you not sure where he is or why he's gone away? Are you even aware of this Lisa Stansfield reference? Whatever. It doesn't matter. We're talking about travel writing, one of the most cathartic fields of composition. Scribes, during their apprenticeship and development, are trained to write what they know. What better way to reflect your nuanced adventures than to scribble them down? The real question is: Will anybody care? Well, the Florida Center for the Literary Arts is hosting a six-week creative writing class, Writing the World, with Tom Swick. Mr. Swick is a veteran travel writer whose work has appeared in the Smithsonian, National Geographic, and Best American Travel Writing. The intensive course is designed to cover the three most important steps in penning a travel story: research, legwork, and writing. The workshop begins Monday at Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus and ends November 7.
