Winning, Ucranian Style
Life in boom town: The asphalt jungle may alienate, but strangers kindness can also inspire serendipitous joy. A pair of disparate exhibits explores both sides of urban living during this weekends Second Saturday Art Walk. Its time yet again to wander Wynwood and Design District streets for the free monthly maraud when galleries open their doors at 7 p.m.
Artist Zhanna Kadyrovas creative process is fueled by the question of how to cope with rapidly growing cities in the age of globalization. The Ukrainian artist believes life in the big city can be a harmonious experience, but it can also become a meat grinder pulverizing the marrow of existence. While some city dwellers might find themselves tending manicured lawns behind white picket fences, others, Kadyrova holds, will find themselves battling urban sprawl and traffic congestion. This Saturday, Kadyrova will make her U.S. debut with The Winners City at Wynwoods Black Square Gallery. The solo show will feature the artists trademark tile sculptures. See her view of contemporary life in a thriving metropolis.
