Wake Up and Read the Dharma
These are chaotic times, what with the war and the housing market and all that miserable traffic everywhere. Buddha once said, Peace comes from within. Begin your journey of inner peace this month at the Wat Buddharangsi, the Thai Buddhist monastery (yes, there is such a thing here in Miami). For three days this month, a collection of sacred relics found among the cremation ashes of Buddha will be on display. The relics are on tour as part of the Maitreya Project, a group that is trying to build a 500-foot Buddha in India. Some of the pearl-size relics were salvaged from statues in Tibet, where they were enshrined for thousands of years before the Communist occupation in 1959; other relics were donated by museums and monasteries. Even a lock of the Dalai Lamas hair is in the mix. The sacred relics will be on display from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today through Sunday. A blessing ceremony and teachings are scheduled for this morning at 10:00.
Dec. 9-10, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
