Vanity Affair

Vanity Fair is no stranger to art. In fact, the most controversial pieces of journalism the magazine has published haven’t been the articles, but the accompanying photographs. From a naked and pregnant Demi Moore to a Hindu god portrayed by Mike Myers to a seminude Miley Cyrus, it’s the only rag with covers so famous they were the subject of an exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art in 2008. While we can’t promise the likes of Annie Leibovitz or David LaChapelle will be around to snap your pic at this Tuesday’s Vanity Fair International Party at the Museum of Contemporary Art, we can guarantee plenty of schmoozing with art freaks, gallery owners, hypercollectors, and other assorted Basel cognoscenti. Guests will begin viewing exhibitions by sculptor Jonathan Meese and then continue with the magazine’s photography virtuoso, Bruce Weber, whose “Haiti/Little Haiti” is on display at MOCA. There will be complimentary vodka cocktails courtesy of Grey Goose. The hobnobbing lasts from 7 to 9 p.m. It’s free for MOCA members and Art Basel VIPs.
Tue., Nov. 30, 7 p.m., 2010
