They once stood as an alternative to the Hollywood bad-moviemaking industrial complex. Now it seems every city, town, village, and intersection has a film festival. Our alternative to the alternative, the 48 Hour Film Project, includes Greater Miami, and the immediate (everything about this event is immediate) results are ready for viewing.

A few days ago teams of local anti-Spielbergs randomly selected a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue; then wrote, cast, crewed, and filmed against a 48-hour hard deadline. These rushes are the finished projects, as mandated by the rules of this national competition (the winning teams in 60 cities go on to compete for the grand prize). Fourteen films from our city’s compo will be shown at each of four screenings, tonight and tomorrow at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. (Yes, math kids, that’s 56 movies, all made in two days. Mr. Bruckheimer, the gauntlet is down.) Viewings take place at the Colony Theater. Price: 10 bucks.
